The chief of army staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has celebrated this year’s Easter with troops of “Operation Lafiya Dole” fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast zone.
Buratai led other Generals to serve the soldiers foods at Ngamdu Super Camp One in Borno State.
He told the troops that the Nigerian Army was determined to end insurgency in the country.
The COAS said: “We all know globally that counter-terrorism is very complex. There are some countries that have fought this insurgency and terrorism for close to 50 years; well, we are not going to wait for 50 years, is that clear?” he emphasised.
Buratai stated that the army is fully prepared to launch a massive offensive against the terrorists, adding that nothing will be left out until they are substantially degraded.
According to him, “we will be there with you, no going back once we commence, is that clear?”
The COAS, who stated that intelligence on defeating terrorists, was being gathered, assured the troops that “we will be with you in the valleys, on the hills, in the jungles, in the rivers and so on.”
He said that the army will be better motivated with equipment among other operational logistics hence Nigerians expect nothing less than victory against the Boko Haram insurgents.
The number army office officer said the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari is solidly behind the troops, adding that the army authorities had started taken delivery of the consignments to handle the fresh operation against the insurgents.
